Cast iron plummer block housings

Cast iron plummer block housings are used in the ball bearing unit series listed in table 1.
Cast iron plummer block housings enable ball bearing units to be relubricated through a grease fitting. This makes them especially suitable for bearing arrangements that operate under any of the following conditions:
  • high levels of contamination
  • high speeds
  • high temperatures
  • relatively heavy loads
Four different housing designs are available:
  • SY(J) series (fig. 1, fig. 2)
    → cast oblong bolt holes
  • SYH series
→ similar to SY series, but with a lower centre height H1
  • SYM series
→ similar to SY series, but accommodates a larger bearing for a given shaft size, resulting in a higher load carrying capacity
  • SYF(J) series (short base, fig. 3, fig. 4)
→ threaded holes in the support base

End covers

To protect the bearing arrangement at the end of a shaft, and to avoid the possibility of an accident caused by an exposed shaft end, cast iron plummer block housings in the SY .. M series are able to accommodate ECY series end covers (fig. 5). End covers are accessories and must be ordered separately. The designations together with the distance A5 that the end cover protrudes from the housing (fig. 6) are listed in the product tables (→ Plummer block housings for insert bearings, Ball bearing plummer block units).

The complete assortment of end covers for ball bearing housings and units is listed the product table.

End covers are made of polypropylene (PP), have good resistance to most chemicals and can withstand operating temperatures up to 100 °C (210 °F). They are mounted by snapping them into the recess of the housing.
